Yuzana Group Palm Oil Refinery
At a glance
This modern palm oil refinery and dry fractionation plant was constructed to help meet local edible oil demand in Myanmar. It aims to produce 200 tons daily of edible oil, which amounts to 40 percent of the current domestic market demand.
In May 2008, Typhoon Nargis storm path crossed the capital Yangon, with winds up to 217 km/h. Local reports have shown that the villages in the vicinity of the plant were flattened post-typhoon. The plant however sustained minor roof and cosmetic damage, while the overall structure remained intact. This incident demonstrated the necessity of proper design by engineers, in the event of natural disasters.
